What would you do?

Thursday night my son called from the dock where he was fishing and said he and his friends bike had just been stolen.  I drove down and picked him up and we drove around the neighborhood to see if we could find the bike.  One of neighbors said she saw two teenagers who have been known to cause trouble riding 2 bikes just a few minutes earlier.  The boys live next door to each other in the neighborhood.  I walked down and one of the boys mothers was walking next door to get her son.   When I told her that someone saw her son and our neighbor with 2 bikes.  She didn’t argue with me at all.  In fact she knew her son was involved and dragged her son out of the house and said “I can’t believe you did it, give him his bike back.”  She made him apologize and gave us both bikes back.

The other boy was not so remorseful. His parents weren’t there and his excuse was the bikes were just sitting there so I just took them.  He never apologized and was extremely disrespectful.  I didn’t know if I should call the police but waited until his mom got home.  His mom was very nice and apologized to me. But even she was amazed that her son was not remorseful.  Now this boy has been seen in the neighborhood with other teenagers messing with cars.  He has messed with our home before. He egged our neighbors truck a few months ago.  There are rumors he is dealing drugs.  He is only 14.

There have been many thefts in cars and homes in our neighborhood.  Now we don’t live in a bad neighborhood.  It is a planned community with a swimming pool and tennis courts.  There are very expensive homes on the river.  But the crime here is going higher and higher.  In fact the crime in our entire community is going out the roof.  My wife was car jacked at the Wal-Mart last May.

Don’t you hate it when this happens…

[Canoe]

A burglar who broke into a Greek Orthodox bishop’s car made off with quite a haul, but fencing one of the stolen items could prove difficult. Among the items stolen from Bishop Metropolitan Isaiah’s car was a jeweled crown of gold and silver, which Isaiah estimated to be worth between $6,000 and $10,000.

Read about it here.

[From me]

1st, I am sorry for this happening. I have been robbed more times than I can count. Plus my wife was car jacked near Arlington back when we were in Seminary. But I wondered what would be stolen from ministers of various denominations?

  • Baptist
  • Methodist
  • Wesleyan
  • Presbyterian
  • Assembly of God
  • Church of God
  • Church of Christ
  • Seventh Day Adventists
  • AME
  • Episcopal
  • Anglican
  • Non-Denomination
  • Etc..

What about from non-Christian groups?

  • Mormons
  • Jehovah Witnesses
  • Buddhists
  • Muslim
  • etc…

Be nice–but have fun! :)

Breaking News-I got hosed by Wells Fargo!

If my experience is any indication of how you will be treated–I would not recommend leasing vehicles from Wells Fargo. I leased a van 8 years ago and turned it in 4 years ago with no penalty. It was in fair shape. Because of that painless lease we leased another.

Two months ago I dropped off our 2003 Honda Odyssey. It was in better condition than the one I turned in 4 years ago and it was almost 10,000 miles under the allowed miles. I put brand new tires on it and I still got hosed!

Thanks Wells Fargo!
:)

[From CBS News]

A woman was sent to jail for six months after failing to repay $56,134 to investors who were told they’d get rich with an invention that keeps outdoor Christmas lights hidden.

Kristine Mylonakis, 45, was accused of fleecing more than 70 investors by claiming she manufactured cylindrical trim that keeps lights concealed until they are needed. She had no such invention.

Read about it here.

Scary stuff

Filed under police, scary, theft, wife

Tonight I was at a wedding rehearsal so I didn’t have my Treo on me.  My beautiful wife Cassandra was suppose to meet me @ 7:00PM for the rehearsal dinner.  I was told by my son that Cass was trying to get me on the phone so I went to my office to grab my Treo.  When I called Cass told me that she had just been attacked at the Wal-Mart by our home.   She went in to get a few things and was walking around the back of the Chrysler Town & Country when a man grabbed her leg and told her to give him the keys!

Cassandra is a very observant person and had just seen a police officer pull in the parking lot and was maybe 6 cars away.  So she kicked the perpetrator in the face and yelled for help.  Charlotte’s finest was there immediately and put Cass in his car and chased the thief down and caught him.  Wow!

This is the 2nd time this has happened to Cass.  In 1992 we were living in Ft. Worth, TX while I was in seminary.  Cass was coming home to our apartment on the East side of Ft. Worth by I-30 & I-820.  I normally wasn’t home on Monday nights because of a class but this night I was home sooner than normal.  Cassandra pulled into our gated apartment community and 2 gang members were waiting for her and attacked her and drove off in our car.

I just praise God that he protected Cassandra back then and tonight.  I also thank God for our police officers who don’t get enough praise for protecting our community.
