Fox News’ Brit Hume leaving for family, religion

After 12 years at Fox News Channel and four decades in the news business, Washington managing editor Brit Hume will leave “Special Report” and daily journalism for a quieter life, spending time with his grandchildren and following his Christian faith (the anchor still will contribute to the network as a political analyst).
As he prepares to anchor his last presidential campaign, Hume said he’s eager to immerse himself in a more spiritual life after dwelling for so long in the secular. The anchor described himself as a “nominal Christian” until 10 years ago, when his son Sandy committed suicide at age 28.
“I feel like I was really kind of saved when my son died by faith and by the grace of God, and that’s very much on my consciousness,” said Hume, who plans to get more involved in his wife’s Bible study group.

I hate that he is leaving for the very reason he is a believer. Now I realize why I always liked watching him. It is sad that it took the tragedy of his son to shake up his faith but that happens a lot. It is interesting how God invites people to Himself after they have gone through horrible things like what Brit and his wife went through. It is great to hear that his faith caused him to leave. I wish more people took their faith that seriously. I hate that we are losing an objective voice in the media.

Baseball player returned to MLB to build a church

[MLB]
The reason Fernando Tatis returned to baseball after two years out of the game, he said on Monday, had little to do with the fact that he wanted to play baseball. Sure, some part of him did miss the game. But mostly he just wanted to build a church.
His entire community in the Dominican Republic wanted to build a church, in fact, and if Tatis signed a Major League contract, he would have the money to do so. The problem was, no team particularly wanted an aging infielder with seemingly little to give.
But Tatis wanted to build a church, and so he told his family that he was going to return to the Major Leagues. This happened roughly a week before the phone rang.
It was the Orioles. They were interested. And now?
“The church is built,” Tatis said. “It’s beautiful, and we got it.”
Tatis played one mediocre portion of the 2006 season with the Orioles before spending another year out of the Majors and hooking on with the Mets this spring. That was a part-time gig until Monday, when manager Jerry Manuel deemed Tatis his regular left fielder for the indefinite future.
“He right now is our left fielder,” Manuel said. “There is no question about it.”

In a day when athletes hold out for more money in their bank account, what a great story. The man came back to play so his community would have a public place to worship God. Cool!
