Paul Burleson has been leading a “Nut’s and Bolts of Family Weekend” at our church. He is a dynamic teacher and storyteller. I would recommend anyone who can get him to have him speak at your church.
This weekend he posed a question that I thought was great:
Ephesians 5:18 says:
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
Both do not get drunk and be filled are commands. We know this because so many people preach about getting drunk and even drinking. Getting drunk is a sin. But so is not being filled with the Holy Spirit. Why don’t we hear many messages about the sin of not being filled with the Holy Spirit?
What are the marks of a person filled with the Holy Spirit?
According to Galatians 5:22-23:
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Why so many consumed with the sin of drunkenness and not the sin of living a life without being filled with the Holy Spirit?
What do you think?
