Before a Davidsen Middle School teacher started a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student, she told the boy she could help him overcome his shyness, according to a new court filing.

This has to be the worst excuse yet.  ”She was helping him with his shyness!”  Oh, what a line!  What is in the water in the Tampa area?

Is this abuse?

Mar-30-2008 By Kevin Bussey

[Yahoo]

The three siblings of a girl who died of diabetes that went untreated as her parents prayed instead of taking her to a doctor have been removed from the home during an investigation, police said Friday. The parents and social services experts agreed the move would be best for everyone, Everest Metro Police Chief Dan Vergin said. The children are staying with other relatives, though they were not in danger, he said.

“There is no physical evidence of abuse or neglect,” he said.

Madeline Neumann, 11, died Sunday the Weston home of an undiagnosed but treatable form of diabetes as her parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann, prayed for her to get better. Her mother said she never expected her daughter, whom she called Kara, to die.

The family believes in the Bible, which says healing comes from God, Leilani Neumann said.

The children removed from the home range in age from 13 to 16 and are expected to return to their parents once an investigation of the girl’s death wraps up, Vergin said.

There is no intent. They didn’t want their child to die. They thought what they were doing was the right thing,” he said. “They believed up to the time she stopped breathing she was going to get better. They just thought it was a spiritual attack. They believed if they prayed enough she would get through it.”

When I first heard this story last week I was angered.  I thought what parent would not take their child to the emergency room or doctor.  But I don’t know what these parents were thinking.  They were not trying to harm their child.  They wanted God to heal them.  So is this child abuse?

The devil made me do it?

Aug-30-2007 By Kevin Bussey

[AJC]

Global Destiny Ministries members on Sunday circled their spiritual wagons around their pastor, Bishop Thomas Weeks III, now charged with beating his estranged wife, the nationally known evangelist Juanita Bynum.

Weeks blamed the devil for the accusation that has him facing two felony charges. He didn’t, however, offer any specifics before introducing a guest minister who preached in his stead, then exiting the room.

The bishop is charged with aggravated assault for allegedly choking, kicking and hitting Bynum on Tuesday night in a parking lot at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel and with making terroristic threats to kill her. Both are felonies.

I believe the devil is alive and well.  But why do people blame the devil for their own sin?  It is time people start taking responsibility for their own actions and stupidity.

Texas Senate passes the dumbest law in years

May-24-2007 By Kevin Bussey

[From News 8 Austin]

Patrons of sexually oriented businesses in Texas would be charged a $5 admission fee imposed by the state under legislation the Senate approved early Wednesday.  The money would go to sexual assault prevention and services, sexual assault research and indigent health care, said Sen. Royce West, a Dallas Democrat. Senators approved the measure 28-1 in the early morning hours as legislative bill passage deadlines approached.

Sometimes I wish I still had the Pharisee of the week award.  This is why I hate politics.  How in the world does charging the people who are more likely to sexually assault women money going to help them?  The best way to stop assault and exploitation of women is to close those horrible places down!
