Curb your humor?

Published by Kevin Bussey at 12:00 pm under Hypocrisy, blasphemy, tacky, tv

My family does not subscribe to HBO. I’m sure people could give me excuses as to why they do subscribe but as a Christian I can’t justify any channel that brings cursing and sex into my home. So excuse me if this is a little late. I’ve heard about the show Curb Your Enthusiasm for years. I’ve never seen it and really have no idea what it is about. From what I understand the character Larry David is a jerk on the small screen. But does being a jerk as a character give you the right to offend on purpose?

In a recent episode, Larry David urinates on a painting of Jesus. It is amazing that Curb and HBO have managed to unite Christians, Muslims and Jews. They even managed to offend people in Hollywood. Maybe this is part of HBO’s plan.

Can someone explain to me how urinating on anyone’s Savior, prophet or God is funny? What happened to tolerance that we have been hearing from Hollywood? What happened to uniting our nation? If this is funny then I guess I have no sense of humor.

Actually Kevin, he doesn’t urinate on the painting of Jesus. He is urinating, and a small amount splashes onto the painting, which for some reason is hanging next to the toilet. I read an artical criticizing the episode before watching it. When I watched it, it occurred to me that too much is being made of this. It really is no big deal.
Given the many times you have posted here about people finding Jesus in toast, or on tree trunks, etc., you might actually find this episode humorous. After the incident occurs, the lady of the house goes into the restroom, sees what she thinks is a tear in Jesus’ eye, and decides to sell everything, quit her job, buy an RV, and travel the country, telling people about her miracle. Of course, Larry David says nothing to her about the real source of the tear. Later on, she discovers all of this.
    Not a big deal.
I understand you not wanting to have HBO in your home. But did you ever watch Seinfeld?
Just thought I would bring a little different perspective into it.

Actually no I’ve only watched Seinfield once. It was all about sex so we never watched again. Just personal convictions.

Thanks for the perspective. I thought it was interesting when the Muslims even thought this was offensive. O well, maybe it isn’t as bad as it sounds. I just don’t understand why someone wouldn’t think this is offensive.

I understand. I think most people hear about something, then respond without actually watching it themselves. I’ve done that many times :)

If you new anything about Jesus you wouldn’t be worshipping a painting of Jesus. You don’t even know what Jesus looked like. Your savior is an object? It’s just like the cross you all scream and cry about. It’s a graven image. When Jesus came his entire issue was with religious zealots like yourself, worshipping idols, dead objects and execution devices. Why don’t you actually read what Jesus said and loose some of the arrogance. Why don’t you practice some of the things Jesus asked you to do. Go feed the starvng, shelter the homeless, bring good news and love to the world. Jesus never said go forth and call yourselves Christians and demand that the world do what you think is right. The meek shall inherit the earth. Please read your own bible and shut up. All you self appointed policemen of God’s needs and wants, with your Fish symbols and your anti gay marriage money parades will eventually destroy yourselves. Amen and thank you, Jesus!
