Christianity Is No Longer Americans’ Default Faith

For much of America’s history, the assumption was that if you were born in America, you would affiliate with the Christian faith. A new nationwide survey by The Barna Group, however, indicates that people’s views have changed. The study discovered that half of all adults now contend that Christianity is just one of many options that Americans choose from and that a huge majority of adults pick and choose what they believe rather than adopt a church or denomination’s slate of beliefs. Still, most people say their faith is becoming increasingly important as a source of personal moral guidance.

Half empty of half full?  I wish more people knew Jesus however this just means people aren’t just saying they are Christians because they are Americans.  To me, this is refreshing because when I share my faith people won’t just say I’m a Christian because I grew up in America.  I tend to see this as a half full situation.  I see this as an opportunity to tell more people about Jesus.

What do you think?

I think this is good news. Way too many people check the “Christian” box on the surveys yet are anything but Christians. I don’t say that in judgment, just a matter of fact. Tens of millions live with a false sense of security. They are no more saved than the individuals in Hamas.

The guy with body piercing, tatoos and spiked hair driving an old beater car with a killer stereo banging his head with ALL his might, singing “I’m on the Highway to Hell” , and the athiest who is honestly and intelligently speaking about their inability to believe in God….are far closer to the kingdom of God than many who claim to be Christian, but do not “let their religion influence their daily lives.” Lukewarm just spews. We need to be mindful that if we are in Christ, body piercing saved our lives, Jesus was and hung out with a bunch of deadheads, prostitutes, and people of ill repute, and it is humanly impossible for anyone of us, to believe in God except that the Spirit of God has revealed these things to us and given us understanding.

    In Christ
