Where is God?
I’ve often wondered whose side God is on. You watch a football game and there are often believers on both sides praying for victory. In an election there are followers of Jesus praying that their candidate wins. Does God really have a hand in who wins?
We’ve had a mixed bag of results in the Real Estate Market. We made $0 on our 1st home. We prayed that God would sell it so we could go to Seminary in Texas and it did sell but we left with nothing. Our 2nd home in Jacksonville, NC was nice. However, when we moved to Atlanta to serve at a church that I know for certain we were to be at–we actually had to write a check to get out of that home. Where was God?
Then we moved from Cumming, GA to Canton, GA to start a church. We prayed and our house sold in about a month and we made an nice profit. We could have surmised that God was in our move. However, the church ran out of money and we accepted a job on the Gulf Coast. We prayed for God to sell our house and it sold but again we lost money. We didn’t have to write a check like before but we lost some of the profit from the previous home. Where was God?
We were approached by a great group of people in NC to move to a new ministry field. We felt God was in it and we sold our home in less than 24 hours for a nice profit. Was God behind this? Our whole time in NC has been a struggle and wondered why were were losing money? Well, the entire nation is suffering? Where is God?
We have been trying to sell our home in NC for 3 weeks. We haven’t even had a showing yet. So, yesterday we dropped the price significantly. By the time we leave NC, I won’t be any better off than when I moved to Atlanta in 1998. Where is God?
It got me to thinking about Job in the OT. Job was highly thought of with God. Yet, Job struggled a whole lot worse than I can ever imagine. I’m sure Job questioned why God would allow him to go through so much. I would guess if Job were around today, he would say should I not accept the bad with the good?
Our house may sell this weekend. It may not sell at all and we could foreclose. I have no idea what God has planned for the future. This is what I know. God has blessed me way beyond what I deserve. I may not have or ever have a lot of money. But I have a Godly wife and children. I have parents who brought me up in the way of the Lord. I have more friends than anyone deserves.
Where is God? –Right here with me!

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21
Your heart is in the right place Kevin and you are a blessed man indeed!

You’re on the money again, Kevin. The promises of God are sure but the timing of His promises are in His providence too.
This is a great lesson for every one to hear. It reminds me of Prov. 3:5-6.

Kevin, as Christ followers we face many battles. None seem more difficult than dealing with money and finances.
I don’t really have an answer for you, except this one. God is in the same place He was at each step of your journey, and at the same place He has always been–on His throne!
I wish I could wish God to act on your behalf at this time. But, I can’t. All I can do is pray for God’s will to be done, as it has each step along the way.

I concur with those that say you have a good attitude about stuff.
Whenever I think about money stresses/troubles/woes, I always think of bob cratchit from Mickey’s Christmas Carol and Tiny Tim and how they are cutting a little green bean in two. It sort of puts things in perspective in a way that involves Mickey Mouse and Scrooge McDuck, and it was sort of religious too since it was about the Christmas Spirit.
Yep indeed, you’re rich. All of us who are in Christ are rich!
2 Cor 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.
The riches we have are not of this world. When we measure where God is, or how He’s blessing us, based upon how our finances are working out, we’re missing the plot completely.
We are in Him and He is in us. That’s where true freedom, riches and life are all found.
I like your example of Job. Look also at the life of the Apostle Paul.
If we ever think we’ve got it bad, or that God isn’t with us, again, we’ve missed the plot somewhere along the line!

God is there in the good and the bad. There is no better example of this than Joseph. He went from worse to first several times on his way to being in control of Egypt. Yet he lived with higher standards than most Bible characters did, shows that its not about your effort or how good you are.
