Fox News’ Brit Hume leaving for family, religion

After 12 years at Fox News Channel and four decades in the news business, Washington managing editor Brit Hume will leave “Special Report” and daily journalism for a quieter life, spending time with his grandchildren and following his Christian faith (the anchor still will contribute to the network as a political analyst).
As he prepares to anchor his last presidential campaign, Hume said he’s eager to immerse himself in a more spiritual life after dwelling for so long in the secular. The anchor described himself as a “nominal Christian” until 10 years ago, when his son Sandy committed suicide at age 28.
“I feel like I was really kind of saved when my son died by faith and by the grace of God, and that’s very much on my consciousness,” said Hume, who plans to get more involved in his wife’s Bible study group.
[From me]
I hate that he is leaving for the very reason he is a believer. Now I realize why I always liked watching him. It is sad that it took the tragedy of his son to shake up his faith but that happens a lot. It is interesting how God invites people to Himself after they have gone through horrible things like what Brit and his wife went through. It is great to hear that his faith caused him to leave. I wish more people took their faith that seriously. I hate that we are losing an objective voice in the media.
What do you think?

I agree Kevin. I hate to see him leave because he is a Christ-follower but surely understand the priority check he is having. At 65 it may he feels it is time to enjoy other stuff (family, Christ and golf). I always liked him as a reporter/journalist. But I certainly wish him well in his future.

Never watched Mr. Hume very much…so I can’t say that I will miss him or not. However, I rejoice that his priorities now seem to be in order…God, family, other things…
Wish he could still do that and present the news to us…I’d be certain to watch him now…

Someone in their 60’s…nay, anyone who can afford to should not need to rationalize retirement… retirement rules! I wish I could retire…
He does seem to have good priorities, though.
He always seem to be someone who could be trusted. I enjoyed listening to him whenever I wanted to hear the news. I’m sorry it took the loss of a child to shake him up and turn him toward Christ but if his son was saved, at least now he’ll have the assurance that they’ll see each other again.
By the way, I really enjoy your stuff. It usually makes me think.

I remember when Brit was the White House Correspondent for ABC many years ago.
Congratulations to him on retiring…He has more than earned it.

I’ve really enjoyed Brit Hume. I like how he has tried to bring a truly fair and balanced perspective to the news, in an age where so few are able to do so. He’s worked with those I agree with and those I do not.
It’s great to hear more about him. You could tell that he was really enjoying himself on tuesday. I wish him a happy retirement!

Brit Hume is far from objective as a news anchor (note that 75% of the material on Fox News is opinion, not fact), but I’m glad to know that he has such a strong faith and wish him all the best.
