Man arrested for attempted bible thumping

[Fox 13]

Authorities say a street preacher almost hit several runners with a Bible during a holiday race in Clearwater.

Police say 48-year-old Mark Alan Sutto was delivering a street sermon when he interfered with the Turkey Trot 10K on Thursday by shouting at runners, getting in their way and waving a large Bible in their path.

What excuses do you think he had for hitting people with a Bible?

Tide ends losing streak against Auburn with rout

All I can say is Bama may not be all of the way back but this sure feels better than the last 10 years.  Phil Fulmer about ruined our program with his slimy NCAA back room deals (he paid Tee Martin and nothing happens).  Mike Dubose about finished it off. Then Fran bailed on us.  Mike Price never coached a game and was fired for off the field junk.  Mike Shula is a nice guy and represented the University well but he was over his head as the head coach.

People made fun of Bama paying $4 million a year for Nick Saban.  But in less than 2 years he has restored the program.  They recruit cleanly.  They are well coached and it is once again fun to be a Bama fan!  Auburn is a fun rivalry because it divides the state. It isn’t a hated rivalry like some may think.  It is just good fun. Auburn is a fine school but it is fun beating them again like we did when I was growing up.  We may slip up next week against Florida because they are hot but I wouldn’t count out this team. Saban has then prepared and coached them to finish.

This is Alabama Football! Roll Tide! 12-0!

God told man to drive 100 MPH…

[My SA News]

The driver of a pickup that struck a woman’s car on the South Side Friday morning is being evaluated by psychiatrists because he thinks God told him to drive in excess of 100 mph to take the other car off the road, police said.

The bizarre incident that shut down southbound U.S. Highway 281 above the Medina River happened about 7:25 a.m.

“He just said God said she wasn’t driving right, and she needed to be taken off the road,” said Lt. Kyle Coleman of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

In other news the police told the driver that God told them to place him in jail.

How “Twitter” reacted to Mumba

[CNN]

The minute news broke of the terrorist attacks on Mumbai, India, social media sites like Twitter were inundated with a huge volume of messages. With more than 6 million members worldwide, an estimated 80 messages, or “tweets,” were being sent to Twitter.com via SMS every five seconds, providing eyewitness accounts and updates.

Many Twitter users also sent pleas for blood donors to make their way to specific hospitals in Mumbai where doctors were faced with low stocks and rising casualties.

Others sent information about helplines and contact numbers for those who had friends and relatives caught up in the attacks. Tweeters were also mobilized to help with transcribing a list of the dead and injured from hospitals, which were quickly posted online. As Twitter user “naomieve” wrote: “Mumbai is not a city under attack as much as it is a social media experiment in action.”

I’ve been using Twitter for almost 2 years. You can follow people on Twitter and see what they are doing. I’ve been prompted to pray for people and they have prayed for me.  My Twitter updates go directly to my Facebook status update.  Some may say it is TMI (Too much information) but in this new era, I like it.  I have met some really cool people via Twitter, blogs and Facebook that I have got to hang out with at conferences.  It is a new way of networking. Times are changing and you either jump on board or get left behind. If you want to follow me on Twitter you can do so here. You can add me on Facebook here.

Should Churches Should be ‘Nonjudgmental’ about Behavior That Transmits HIV?

[CNS News]

Religious leaders and AIDS activists told CNSNNews.com Tuesday that labeling sex outside of marriage as sinful or having multiple partners as immoral behavior is “biased” – something society has “moved beyond.”

At a telephone news conference in advance of World AIDS Day, AIDS activist groups and representatives of various religious groups said that counseling teens and others to be abstinent and restricting sex to marriage just isn’t “realistic,” and called on churches and the incoming Obama administration to deal with HIV/AIDS in a “truthful” and “medically accurate way.”

The Rev. Michael Schuenemeyer, executive for health and wholeness advocacy in the national offices of the United Church of Christ, said the church should be “nonjudgmental” when it comes to HIV/AIDS – and cited a recent workshop he attended as an example of how the Church should act.

“The young people in that workshop were so grateful that faith leaders were willing to be real with them, create a safe space for them to ask questions – to share their views, experiences and ideas, and to provide them with value-based, medically accurate information, along with the tools for making healthy and responsible decisions,” he said.

The religious leader called on churches and “faith perspectives” not to engage in what he called “stigma” and “discrimination” – and appealed to Christian tradition to make his point.

“(Jesus) sent his disciples out to heal the sick, and he encouraged people of faith to be alert and ready, saying, ‘If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into,’” Schuenemeyer said.

“In terms of HIV, we already know how HIV breaks into the body and robs the immune system of its capacity to respond to disease,” he added. “But too many people, young and old, are not effectively prepared with the information and tools they need to prevent an infection.”

But Schuenemeyer balked when CNSNews.com asked why religious groups shouldn’t label risky behavior the way religion has traditionally regarded it — as immoral.

[From me]

Did they stop reading the Bible? Paul makes it clear that sex outside of marriage is immoral.

Galatians 5:19

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery

Ephesians 5:3

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people

Colossians 3:5-6

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming

I Thessalonians 4:3

It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality

What non-believers do is their business.  They can chose to sin if they want. But as believers and especially ministers we must tell people the truth even if it does hurt their feelings. God created sex for one purpose to be between a married man and woman.  Multiple partners no matter what sex is sinful. That doesn’t mean God doesn’t love those who engage in immoral behavior. Believers need to love them too.  We should love them enough to tell them the truth.  Sex outside of a heterosexual marriage relationship is sin according to God.
