Birmingham Road Trip Day 1

Posted at 11:29 pm under Alabama, life, prayer

Our trip started earlier than planned.  Hope got sick on Wednesday and we were afraid she wouldn’t be able to go to school on Thursday so I drove her to Columbia early on Wednesday night to stay with my parents.  Then I drove straight back to Charlotte.

We got up @ 6 AM on Thursday and drove Jacob to school and stopped in Gaffney, SC for a Venti Pikes Blend at Starbucks.  Yes, I got mooned by the peach again.  We stopped for lunch at Arby’s in Douglasville, GA before making it to our appointment at Pizitz Middle School in Vestavia Hills.  It is such a small world because one of the women in the office was a friend of mine from High School in Tuscaloosa. After Pizitz, we checked out Central Elementary.  Then we drove around Vestavia while my mom and Cassandra argued with me that we needed to see a Realtor.  They won. :)

We stopped to see a realtor and she showed us a some homes in Vestavia and near Oak Moutntain.  We are going to the Oak Mountain Schools today as well as Vestavia HS.

We are staying with one of Cassandra’s life long friends Joan Bell Swearingen and her husband Burke who was the former Police Chief in Homewood.

Birmingham is a beautiful area.  It is where I met Cassandra and we both went to college at Samford and UAB.  I graduated from Samford and we both got degrees from UAB. I felt at home when I saw the mountains.  It does feel like home.

Of course lots has to happen for us to even purchase a home.  I’m still about $2K short of my goal for raising support and we have to sell our house.  If you would like to help let me know.  I’ll never have to raise support again since the companies I eventually serve will pay my salaray. Lots of prayer needs to go forward.

Bro G and I continue to lift you/yours up on a daily basis! Oh…. and in the dream I had on Sept 13th that woke me up at 2:00 a.m. to pray… I blogged about it on “Prayer - More Than A Chance Encounter” - you were moving back to Bama. That was just a part of the dream.. not the whole dream.

The dangerous prayers are even more dangerous so now….

I knew Birmingham seemed like a far nicer place today, with you guys in town!

Stay away from Vestavia and Oak Mountain…come over the REAL mountain, and live in my neck of the woods in Chelsea…you won’t be disappointed!

As I’ve told you…I’ll make you a great offer on my house. We just “fired” our realtor…so, we can cut out a good bit of commissions and headaches…I’m a strong believer in handshakes!

    Yes…I’m serious!

Chelsea is a good location - I have many friends there. Also, if you want the Vestavia system you should consider Cahaba Heights which was annexed by Vestavia a few years back. Great location, wide selection of houses, and all the Vestavia ammenities!

The only problem with Chelsea is that if the companies you are working with are downtown, you’ll spend at least 2 hours of your day stuck on 280. Other than that, it’s a great little town.

Now Angie…don’t tell Kevin that…he’ll believe you!

Unless his offices are downtown, he’ll be find…there are so many places Chelsea is close to…Pelham, Vestavia, Alabaster, etc…

Steve, isn’t that what I said? :-) Chelsea is actually a great place to live with good schools and neighborhoods. The only issue is traffic if you have to commute the wrong way. Me, I opted for the five minute commute (seven with traffic). And yes, I actually have to get into my car and go somewhere.

In all seriousness, Bham is a great place to live. While the city itself has problems (namely the mayor), the surrounding areas in all four directions are great places to live and raise families.

Kev .. I have a son that lives in Chelsea, but Angie’s right about 280. During “rush hour” .. which is a really strange name for a time when people are creeping at single digit , 280 is one of the world’s longer parking lots.

Pelham-Helena-Alabaster are better in that there are some alternate routes, at least. But then there’s no commute at all for the retired. :)
