Lunch with The Atheist…

Posted at 3:40 pm under atheists, blogs, catalyst, conference, friends

Mike Landrum and I are in Atlanta for the Catalyst Conference.  Today we had lunch with Ask an Atheist at Bahama Breeze.  A3 is one of the most genuine, nice people you will ever meet.  He allowed us to pray for our food and he even paid! :)  Thanks A3!

Then Mike and I went to my old church Peachtree Corners to see everyone there.  We are back at our motel room and are looking forward to a great conference this week. We are scheduled to see Bryan Riley, Chuck Bryce, Stuart Delony, Cole Phillips and others.  I will give you all of the highlights as they come!

    Kevin & Mike

Really great seeing y’all again! While y’all were praying over the food, I was secretly praying that someone else would pick up the check!!

Just kidding :)) It was my pleasure and I hope to see you both again next time you’re in town. Enjoy the conference!

Hopefully, one of you, Kevin or Mike, kept at least one eye opened during the prayer…who knows what A3 did to your food while you prayed!

A3…see, you aren’t as deceitful as us terrible Christians…

Maybe the server took care of it for you!

A3 and Kevin- hi from Australia! What was on the menu, apart from Kevin’s heart-starter gallon of coffee?

Christians being nice to us infidels is always a pleasant surprise.
I just got abused by a born again Christian. I asked what his new life meant to him, and guess what I was told? That I am a worthless user of water and air, a moron and a plague upon Planet Earth. After that, he promised to pray for me. Maybe he’ll be asking God to make my brakes fail:)

    Francoise,

I’m sorry for that misguided person. I can’t speak for others but that isn’t the way the Jesus I know would treat people.

Not sure about that, Kevin. Jesus wasn’t the most pleasant person to have around. I don’t think I’d want him as a neighbour.
There is NO reason for you to apologise for that BAC’s rudeness! I don’t hold you in any way being responsible for the actions of another ( and I’m sure that’s a great relief to you:) ) I’m afraid that all too often, Christians are very, very off-putting with their rudeness and arrogance. I would think that a person who believes that they’ll be enjoying celestial bliss for eternity would be a happy soul, but sadly, all too often, they are wrathful, insulting and judgemental. Not a good advertisement for the faith at all.

    Francoise,

But that kind of behavior breaks my heart. Jesus hung out with everyone. Your experience should never happen but unfortunately it is very common and for that I’m ashamed and saddened.

    Chuck,

I tell everyone if you can’t stay near the Civic Center go North. Anything near the Mall of Georgia is nice.

    Fran,

Chicken caesar salad, portobello mushroom sandwich, bohemian kabob. Any guesses to who had what? :^p

    Chuck,

If I were you, I wouldn’t leave the food-blessing to Kevin. My lunch was repeating on me all afternoon.

    :))

A3, ahhh, the mysteries of American cuisine. I’m almost too afraid to ask what a bohemian kabob is. It sounds like one of God’s nastier microbes. A mushroom sandwich leaves the brain completely adrift, and I’ve never seen chicken caesar salad. Ummm, Let me consult my crystal ball….I have a strong image of Kevin slugging down several vats of coffee to wash the bohemian kabob down the hatch..your good self being very kosher and eating the sandwich, and Mr Mike having the caesar salad. How did I do?

  16. AskAnAtheist.orgon 09 Oct 2008 at 7:49 am 16

    Fran,

    How did I do?

    Abysmally! :))

I did have the mushroom sandwich as you correctly guessed, but it was because I prefer to avoid “factory meats” (vs. small-farm organic meats). Here in the good ol’ US, “big meat industry” is appalling. The animals live miserable, tortuous, diseased lives packed into tiny spaces, living in their own filth, abused by their handlers, and often never seeing the light of day. They are regularly shot full of growth hormone and mega-doses of antibiotic which are passed directly along to us in tact. Sounds scrumptious! I’ll take my chances with insecticide-soaked vegetables any day (unless organics are available).

Anyway, Kevin had the chicken caesar (cubed broiled chicken breast over a bed of romaine lettuce with ceasar dressing: mayonnaise, lemon juice, and parmesan cheese). Mike had the bohemian kabob - chunks of meats and vegetables grilled on a skewer.

We all had iced tea - no one had coffee! :)) Come to think of it, I don’t recall anyone praying over the iced tea ;)

Hey, A3, a 33% hit rate is pretty good for someone with a crystal ball!

Yes, I know what you mean about the food industry over there- I ordered some chickens and got what I thought was a slab of pterodactyl- it was HUUUUGE! Luckily, we in Australia have far better poultry farming….

No coffee?????? Kevin must be in heavy withdrawals :)
