PRINCE’S DOOR-TO-DOOR PREACHING SHOCKS FANS

[SF Chronicle & USA Today]

Religious rocker Prince is often chased through the streets by his fans, as he tries to convert them to the Bible. The singer, who became a Jehovah’s Witness in 2001, goes house-to-house to preach about the faith. And fans are sometimes so stunned to find the rock legend on their doorstep that they don’t want to let him go.

He tells USA Today newspaper, “Sometimes fans freak out. It might be a shock to see me, but that’s no reason for people to act crazy, and it doesn’t give them license to chase me down the street.”

Prince is so devoted to his faith that he even takes the Bible to business meetings, to show executives he is serious about doing a deal.

[From me]

It is good that Prince (or the artist formerly known as Prince) has cleaned up his act.  But being good doesn’t get you to heaven because none of us ever is good enough.  The problem with the “Bible” that Prince carries is the translation.  The Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t believe in the Trinity.  Their translation is a horrible translation that distorts the truth.  The Jehovah’s Witnesses are a cult and I’m sorry to hear that Prince hasn’t found the real Jesus.  I pray he does soon.

Gas crunch? or gas scam?

Before Hurricane Ike hit the Gulf Coast the prices of gasoline were going down.  I actually paid $3.69 a gallon which I know is high but for NC that was low.  Then in the course of a few hours it rose by $1 a gallon.  After the hurricane in dropped down to $4.29 and even as low as $3.99 in some places.

On Wednesday of this week for no reason I can think of I couldn’t find any station with gas.  I was almost out and had to pay $4.09 a gallon but I only put $20 in the tank.  Yesterday on the way into the coffee shop I saw station after station closed except for 2 and the lines were a half mile long and this was at 5:30 AM. So when I got off at 11:00 AM I figured I had better get some gas or I may run out over the weekend.  I finally found a station not far from my house that had gas.  I passed at least 10 stations that were out.  I ended up waiting 30 minutes for gas so I filled up at $3.99 a gallon.

What is the deal.  I had someone tell me yesterday that they were paying $3.25 in Kansas City.  Why are we paying almost a dollar more?  Why in a place no where near the hurricane are we having panic, long lines and being ripped off?  I know I won’t get it but I want answers.

Vandal leaves message of hate on soldier’s Jeep

Filed under Hypocrisy, mean, military, protests

[Dallas Morning News]

An Army Reserves sergeant studying at Dallas Baptist University was surprised this week to find the message “soldiers are murderers” spray painted on his Jeep Wrangler.Viktow Whitlow, a junior, had parked his Jeep on the campus at about 2 a.m. Wednesday and returned hours later to find his vehicle’s tires had been flattened, the seats slashed and “soldiers are murderers” spray painted in red across the hood.

“It’s disheartening to be honest with you,” he said. “It’s shocking that somebody would write something like that. It just makes me speechless.”

Mr. Whitlow, who recently spent two tours in Balad, Iraq, said he has no idea who vandalized his Jeep or why he was targeted.

“I actually worked in a medical treatment facility and we actually saved lives instead of taking them,” he said.

Read about it here.

[From me]

How terrible!  Whether you agree with the war or not, the men and women from our military protect us and allow for protests in our nation.  But if you disagree with the war don’t take it out on those serving.  They deserve our respect and honor. Plus this man was saving lives!  Whoever did this ought to be ashamed.

Wicca-America’s ‘Fastest-Growing’ Religion?

Filed under faith, religion, trends, wiccan

[Christian Post]

While many Christians today are closely monitoring the growth and activity of Islam, especially after 9/11, another religious movement has been steadily growing “under the radar” and could become among the largest religions in the United States in less than five years.

“Wicca is the fastest-growing religion in America, set to be the third largest religion by 2012,” claims Marla Alupoaicei, who co-wrote the recently released book “Generation Hex” with fellow Christian author Dillon Burroughs.

“The numbers of adherents are doubling every 30 months,” she says.

Furthermore, every major city in the United States has networks of Wiccans, adds Burroughs.

“Certain parts of the country, such as the Pacific Northwest, the mountain states (New Mexico and Colorado) and areas near Salem, Mass., are the strongest in the U.S.,” he says. “However, I live in Tennessee and have found pockets of Wiccans in Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia to interview. I didn’t have to travel far or even outside of the so-called Bible belt to find Wiccans.”

While “Harry Potter” and other media like “Charmed,” “Buffy,” “Sabrina,” and “The Craft” have skyrocketed witchcraft into the public eye, the authors both agreed that among the biggest draws to the Wiccan culture is how community-oriented it is.

“Many involved in Wicca come from lonely backgrounds or difficult relationships and find new friends in the Wiccan community who embrace them (sometimes better than Christians do),” explained Burroughs, who served as a youth pastor for about a decade and said he was asked by students about Wicca and witchcraft more than any other religious movement.

“As our culture becomes more and more isolated and busy (and as real relationships are replaced by texting, IM, etc.), young people are starving for real relationships and true community, as well as for a powerful experience of faith,” Alupoaicei added.

“People want a supernatural experience,” she said.

And while the Christian life is an abundant, supernatural life in which the power of God can be experienced, Alupoaicei said Christians are not communicating that very well to the world.

Furthermore ignorance and misunderstanding within the Christian community has prevented people from drawing near to Christ and leaves them looking for something else.

“And, ironically, a desire to uphold Scripture,” Alupoaicei added. “The Bible does say that Christians should not be involved in witchcraft, but that doesn’t mean that we should not reach out to those involved in this practice.

[From me]

Hollywood has done a great job of making witchcraft seem harmless and fun. But it is not.  Should we avoid Wicca the religion? Yes.  She we avoid Wiccan’s? NO!.  My father has had more experience dealing with Wiccan’s and Satanists than me but most people who get involved in it are looking for a sense of belonging. They are usually the outcasts.  As believers we need to reach out to the “EMO’s” and those who may not be “cool” because Jesus became friends to everyone.

Should we be afraid of Wiccan’s? No.  We need to pray for them and share with them the truth of Jesus Christ.

[WESH]

An Orlando woman claims she has found Jesus and Mary on some shells. She said she was walking down the beach when she found the oyster shell that shows the face of Jesus. On her walk back home, she said she found another smaller shell with the virgin Mary holding a baby Jesus. The woman claimed she has had nothing but good luck since finding the shells.

[From me]

Maybe that was the same shell that Jesus told the disciples to get the coin for their taxes!  Looks like one of the characters from Planet of the Apes!
