Clayton residents turn to prayer to fix schools

Posted at 4:00 am under prayer, public schools

If the governor summoned a prayer vigil for rain, why not pray for Clayton County’s schools? That’s how Bishop Dianne Collins of College Park’s Faith Walk Ministries Inc. looks at it.

And so, on Sunday afternoon, she was among a handful of preachers who roused the crowd in front of the Harold R. Banke Justice Center in Jonesboro in a vigorous call for God to help restore order to the mess that last month cost Clayton schools their accreditation.

It sure couldn’t hurt.  In fact, I would love to see a study of a school system that didn’t pray verses a school system that did and see which faired better academically, socially, and in regards to safety.

What do you think?

You know, it might also help if some of the 200 people who showed up to pray also volunteered to serve as afternoon tutors and mentors. Maybe, some of those prayers could offer to do job fairs to show children the value of a good education. Maybe some of the prayers could volunteer to serve as teacher’s aides, to allow teachers time to spend with the children needing more help.

    Pray? Sure! Volunteer? Definitely!

I definitely agree with Steve’s thoughts on this.

    I’m with Steve too.

On a side note, my wife teaches at a small private high school in town. Every year before school starts, the principal of the school goes into every classroom and prays over every desk in that room and for the student/teacher that will be there. I just think that is really awesome. And when you consider that there are probably 150-200 desks, that is a lot of praying!
