beauty contest for nuns?

[MSNBC]
An Italian priest and theologian said Sunday he is organizing an online beauty pageant for nuns to give them more visibility within the Catholic Church and to fight the stereotype that they are all old and dour.
The “Miss Sister 2008″ contest will start in September on a blog run by the Rev. Antonio Rungi and will give nuns from around the world a chance to showcase their work and their image.
Father Rungi, a moral theologian with his own blog, said that the nuns would not wear swimsuits or revealing outfits. What he valued most in a woman was “inner beauty”. Asked for his feminine ideal, he replied: “Well, I would say Sophia Loren.”
The nuns can decide whether to wear their full habits, including veils, or let their hair down. Each photo will be accompanied by an account by the nun of her life, personality, daily activities and spiritual development.
[From me]
I don’t know what to say. I couldn’t make this up if I tried. I wonder if they will ask them the same question they asked Miss Teen SC? I can hear it now, “I’d like world peace,” “my ambition is to be like Mother Teresa,” “I want to be the first female Pope.” Truth is stranger than fiction.
What do you think?

I saw this news this morning and I just knew either you or I would need to run the story!
Glad you did!
You know…life is so filled with humor and funny experiences…I like to just sit back sometimes and soak it all in…
Wonder why a priest is admiring Sophia Loren? Don’t need to ask, I don’t guess.

Nunsense!!!
Speechless (I am). A beauty contest based on inner beauty. Question: What mark have you made on the world or community? I clean the nunnery (or whatever that place is called). My last comment: I will have nun of this story.

The loser could always chalk it up to a bad habit.
And the Swimsuit Competition should be interesting…
(I was going to say something about the talent contest winner playing “It Was Only A Papal Moon”, but I figure you young’uns wouldn’t get it).

I actually thought it sounded like a cool idea. It does seem like nun’s are percieved as old and dour. If they could actually be more themselves and let their hair down a little they have some fun. It’s been a while since the media has given them an outlet to be looked upon as cool, it’s been like 15 years since Sister Act, so I say bring it on. I’ll vote for my fav, but what do they get if they win?

Ha Ha. M.Steve, I just saw it. The debate signs were hilarious too. Reading Kevin’s and then mine, we should be smiling or rather hard belly laughing for quite some time.

I’d vote for Sister Bertrille (The Flying Nun)!

I am waiting for the contest result .
Why are they doing pictures if it is for inner beauty? It is funny that the point is to know about the younger nuns. (isn’t sophia loren old?) Perhaps the point is to get us to not remember the escapeds of those priests.
This just in!
ROME - An Italian priest, who had planned an online “pageant” for nuns, has suspended the project, saying he was misinterpreted and had no intention of putting sisters on a beauty catwalk.
“My superiors were not happy. The local bishop was not happy, but they did not understand me either,” Father Antonio Rungi told Reuters by telephone from his convent in southern Italy on Tuesday.
