Is your right to shoot your lawn mower protected under the Constitution?

Keith Walendowski

[JS Online]

A 57-year-old south side man, who might have been struggling with a hangover, is charged today with shooting his lawn mower with a sawed-off shotgun.

“I’ll tell you the truth,” a criminal complaint quotes an apparently inebriated Keith Walendowski. “I got p****** because my lawn mower wouldn’t start, so I got my shotgun and shot it.

“I can do that. It’s my lawn mower and my yard, so I can shoot it if I want,” Walendowski told police.

[From me]

Actually I’ve wanted to do that myself.

In related news the grass at Jordan-Hare Stadium at Auburn University has been replaced by artificial turf due to the cheerleaders grazing on the field.

I don’t have a shotgun…but I do have a big hammer…always worked on lawnmowers and other yard equipment…unfortunately, it never worked very well on deacons!

You are going to catch all kinds of trouble about your JH statement…mainly because it is true!

If you don’t believe Kevin and I, just wait for the season, you’ll see…they’ve either been grazing there or at Ryan’s or Golden Corral…

I don’t think that the right to shoot property (other than slaves perhaps) was what the framers had in mind with the Second Amendment.

Depends on who’s mowing your lawn. I think it ought to be legal to shoot cessationists or landmarkers, for instance.

Obviously you guys don’t live in Florida… we are all hearing this and thinking, “Why is that newsworthy?” Shooting the lawnmower is a right of passage here.

I can relate. I had a weed eater go bad once. I got so tired of re-stringing it, among other problems. It finally gave out one too many times and I realized I had to get a new one. I was hot and irritated.

As I walked back towards the house I picked it up over my head and body slammed it to the ground. Twice, I think (details are sketchy). Luckily I didn’t swear - out loud, at least - because it turns out that my youngest daughter was watching from an upstairs window.

She really helped the situation by deadpanning, “It is a good thing the riding mower didn’t break.”

The problem is that he used a sawed-off shotgun. That is unsportsmanlike. He should have been using a deer rifle.

You gotta love that this didn’t happen in the South!
I’ve seen farmers shoot with a bbgun at their combines when they are mad…so doesn’t surprise me. (gotta use a bbgun those things are too expensive)

I was fixing (trying) a washing machine motor that I had fixed many times before but this time it wouldn’t cooperate. Through that motor across the garage floor. It didn’t stand a chance. I almost got arrested for motor abuse. It was a rare display of washing machine-motor-throwing-anger. I solved the problem though. I told my wife it was time for a new one. :)

I’ve learned the lesson over time: The best thing to do isn’t get angry, don’t throw, don’t shoot, don’t hit..etc…the best answer is to simply go buy the new piece of equipment first!

That reduces the frustration level…until the bill comes in!

Well, the natural lawn at the OU football stadium was replaced with artificial turf. The cheerleaders were grazing too much.

Maybe he was just trying to aerate his yard and the mower got in the way.
