Gay man sues publishers over Bible verses

Bradley LaShawn Fowler of Canton, Mich., is seeking $60 million from Zondervan, based in Cascade Township, and $10 million from Nashville-based Thomas Nelson Publishing.
Fowler filed the suit in federal court against Zondervan on July 7, the same day U.S. District Judge Julian Abele Cook Jr. refused to appoint an attorney to represent him in his case against Thomas Nelson.
Fowler filed a suit against Thomas Nelson in June. He is representing himself in both claims.
“The Court has some very genuine concerns about the nature and efficacy of these claims,” the judge wrote.
Fowler, 39, alleges Zondervan’s Bibles referring to homosexuality as a sin have made him an outcast from his family and contributed to physical discomfort and periods of “demoralization, chaos and bewilderment.”

[From me]
Why don’t overweight people sue for the references on gluttony? How about the National Enquire suing for the verses on gossip? Why not have Budweiser sue about the verse on being drunk? Why not Mothers Against Drunk Driving sue for the verses where Paul tells Timothy to drink a little wine?
I get convicted daily when I read the Bible. I’m not going to sue–I’m going to change my life to become more like Jesus. I hope the ACLU backs the publishers!
What do you think?

Kevin, for once I don’t know what to say…I’m at a total loss for words…

Oh My Goodness!!! This is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard. It just shows how desperately people enjoy their sins and don’t want to take personal responsibility for themselves.
BTW, has the ACLU EVER done anything “right’. Most of what they do is “LEFT”, as in, “The ACLU has left decency”. “The ACLU has left the Constitution in shambles”. etc.

I’ve been sitting here for 5 minutes trying to think of the proper response. All I can come up with is:
“Uhhhhhhhh”

Personally, I’m setting my hearing aid to detect shouting and trumpets. I’m expecting that chorus shortly.

I think this is stupid.
Where do you find these ridiculous news stories?
Wait. Nevermind.
I don’t want to know.
Good grief.

My first reaction is to just ignore the idiot but unfortunately that is what has gotten us into the predicament we are in in most cases! If we, as Christians, had made more of a big deal about homosexuality being wrong in the past, then maybe he wouldn’t be so foolish as to think he has a right to be offended by the Truth.
God bless,
Sallie
K,
As I blogged I am not surprised by this but man, does this open a whole can of worms. Can you see someone into bestiality doing this? Or witchcraft (consulting mediums)? Or adultery? I want to think there is not a court in the land that will touch this but he will find some liberal judge who just may want to test things. Another option: is he admitting that the Bible says homosexuality is a sin? Hmmmm interesting thought there. If anyone wants to see my take on it they can click on the link that follows. (I know shameless plug)

A gay man is suing two heavyweight Christian publishers, claiming their versions of the Bible that refer to homosexuality as a sin violate his constitutional rights and have caused him emotional pain and mental instability.
Good.

Quick, bar the door so the “Soul Force” gang doesn’t enter in for a huge demonstration!!
If I didn’t know any better Kevin, for a moment I would have thought the lawsuit was filed in my state and your native state… Alabama.
Especially since many people like to sue someone else around this state.
I know a great lawyer in Alabama who has won many, many cases. If Zondervan needs his help, I can suggest his name. Hope they want need it though….

Seriously? This is news? This guy appears to be a mental patient off his meds. What constitutional rights have the publishers violated? His constitution must be different than mine. I doubt seriously he’ll find even a liberal judge to take this case on. They’d be the laughingstock of the courthouse for years to come. Many, many lawsuits are filed and never see the light of day. This will be one of those. Anybody else agree we need a “loser pays” system?
Yes, Angie, I agree. Let’s make this man pay Thomas Nelson and Zondervan for the ridicious lawsuit he has filed. I’d say, oh, how about $20 million each…

If we all sued over things that cause us “distress”…there would be NOTHING happening in this nation but LAWSUITS….
And yes, the “gay man” needs to get a life, and realize the world doesn’t revolve around himself…
But obviously, HIS WORLD does revolve around himself…and that’s the reason it is such a lonely, isolating, distressing, and painful place to live…because it ‘revolves’ around him.

As frivolous as this sounds, the GLBTQ lobby will continue to be aggressive in attacking churches and the Bible. Its truth is a constant reminder to them of their sin.
