God hates hate!
At Tim Russert’s Kennedy Center memorial, members of the Westboro Baptist Church picketed and held placards cursing the belovedMeet the Press host for his Catholicism and tolerance of homosexuality.

I always liked Tim Russert. I wouldn’t have expected the wackos from Westboro to show up at his memorial but I guess nothing should surprise me. Tim Russert was not a homosexual activist. He was a Catholic so his church teaches against homosexual behavior. So why do the Phelps and the Westboro church feel the need to protest his memorial? I think I know the answer (publicity) but do they even have a heart?
I wouldn’t protest at anyone’s funeral. Even if they believed in everything opposite of me. I didn’t rejoice when Sadam Hussein died. I don’t want to see anyone perish–even the Phelps. What kind of sick mind would protest at a families lowest point? How does that display the love of Christ?

I can accept when this group protests at the annual SBC–not that I agree with their message or signs–but they have a right to protest, I suppose. However, I cannot accept their protests at the funerals of our military men and women who gave their lives in service for our country. I also have a difficult time understanding their protests at Tim Russert’s funeral.
It seems to me that what’s important to them is not their protests as much as it is the publicity they receive in doing so.
I’m with you. God hates hate. Whether is it the hate of a radical Muslim hating America enough to bring her down or the hate of a person against a minority member of their society or the hate of a group like this church group that spouts hatred toward almost everyone.

I’m with you. They are doing a disservice to everyone that proclaims Christ as their savior. How many people drove by and saw those signs and decided at that point that they would never respect Christians? How many little kids said, “Mommy why are those people out here with bad signs?” I mean really. This is only hurting the message of God.

Frankly K, I am sick & tired of these people being seen as representatives of Christ-followers who have a genuine faith and care deeply about others. I am not Mr. Russert’s judge. I will go out on a limb and say that there may very well be a special judgement reserved for people like Westboro “church”

Sooo . . . I finally watching the videos. A few observations:
1) Does this lady realize that in video 1 she pretty much condemned herself to hell by her own measure of sin regarding someone’s words and actions?
2) It is obvious that the only false prophet here is her. She is distorting a lot of the Bible.
3) She has forgotten the whole, love your neighbor as yourself part of the Bible.
4) How did you not laugh as she was spouting her rhetoric?
5) The one thing I agree with her on is the fact that America is forgetting that God gives blessings to the nations that follow Him. I don’t, however, share her radical view of what this means.

As I have written, this hate group from Westboro came to Enid to protest at a Military funeral and were met with friendly opposition that quickly proved just how cowardly and ineffective Westboro is.
They need to pass laws to keep this group from protesting at funerals. I have discovered personally just how emotionally draining funerals are without all the hate added to it. If more would stand against them, they would go away. If someone would sue them using a loophole and bankrupt them, they would not have the money to travel to all these funerals. The problem is they are very wealthy.
