Meet Obama’s new pastor
The man slated to become chief pastor at the Trinity United Church of Christ has called blacks “lepers” with a “skin disease,” claimed U.S. entertainment corporations operate with “disdain” for black people, and in a fiery sermon claimed retired pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright was “lynched” by the media and compared the embattled pastor to Jesus.
Otis Moss III, lauded this week by Obama as a “wonderful young pastor,” also recently refused to deny claims by Wright that the U.S. government was involved in distributing illegal drugs to minorities or spreading the AIDS virus to blacks.
The 37-year-old Moss, nicknamed the “hip-hop pastor” by congregants, will become the head of Trinity Christ in June, taking over for Wright, whose controversial remarks landed Obama in hot water.
Following a series of national media interviews given by Wright last week, Obama strongly denounced some of Wright’s statements as “divisive and destructive.”
Wright had defended his views that the U.S. was to blame for the 9-11 attacks and referred to Nation of Islam head Louis Farrakhan as “one of the most important voices in the 20th and 21st century.” Wright also quoted controversial Farrakhan remarks, such as his calling “Zionism” a “gutter religion.”

I have already sent Senator Obama a letter inviting him to visit us at The Moody Church….he needs to get away from Trinity United Church of Christ.

I heard the sermon that WorldNetDaily (not exactly the most fair and unbiased source) cites. Moss basically compared Wright’s “lynching” to Jesus’ “lynching.” He didn’t suggest that Wright was in any way the next best thing to Jesus, etc.
By the way, the older man sitting down in the picture. I saw him preaching during the Preaching Session at the New Baptist Covenant. That’s his father, Otis Moss Jr.
I do wonder whether Moss III actually shares some of Wright’s kooky beliefs. He has a MDiv from Yale - so I’d hope not. I’ve always seen Wright’s kooky beliefs as a result of being a product of his generation. But, nobody should expect Moss III to publicly disagree with the man who tapped him as his successor.

1. World Net Daily is a very rightwing source. Not unbiased, as BDW says.
2. McCain’s preacher friends, Hagee and Parsley, are AT LEAST as alarming as Wright.
3. I would love the focus to get back to Obama’s views, especially on the ISSUES: ending the war, poverty, saving the middle class, universal healthcare, rebuilding our schools, ending torture, restoring Habeas Corpus, etc.
