X Rated Site or New Church Series?

In a project guaranteed to spark controversy and pique interest, Flipside Christian Church of Madera Ranchos is inviting people to church using what at first glance appears to be an X-Rated web site. The site, http://www.yourultimatelover.com asks the viewer questions about their “Ultimate Lover.” Once the link is accessed the viewer is taken to the church’s web site for information about a new series on love. The project hits homes in the area with newspaper inserts, and a postcard advertisement about the “yourultimatelover” web site. The site and campaign are designed to encourage attendance during a special series on love through the month of February at Flipside Church, which meets at Liberty High School, off Hwy 41 and Ave. 12 between Fresno and Madera.

[From me]

Check out the website. I didn’t think X-rated. It is a little edgy though. I hope it works to attract people to their church.

What do you think?

I think that is pretty cool. Nothing offensive about it to me.

This is far to loaded with misapplication. Call the site anything other than “yourultimatelover.” To identify Jesus as our ultimate lover creates a sexual nature to the gospel and we are not Rob Bell, and I truly think that there is not sexual innuendo in the Gospel. Not only that, you instantly turn off a great deal of men through it and create an unhealthy fascination in women who then expect their husbands to match up with Christ. When he can’t, a sort emotional spiritual adultery is established as they fantasize about the perfect husband who is all these things and eventually start identifying men who appear to fit that mold in the church. It is dangerous territory in my opinion even if the approach in the end does not promote that.

God is not my spouse and it is well outside the bounds of Scripture to think of her that way.
