Why would someone make it up?
[KOLO & Las Vegas Now]
At the announcement ceremony on Friday, Kevin Hart, with Fernley coach Mark Hodges at his side, said he talked
Five days after formally announcing his decision to play football for the University of California, Fernley Senior Kevin Hart released a statement saying he made the whole thing up. On Wednesday, Hart issued the following statement through the Lyon County School District.
“I wanted to play D-1 ball more than anything. When I realized that wasn’t going to happen, I made up what i wanted to be reality.
[From me]
When I first heard this story last week I thought it was funny until I read this boy’s quote above. He tried to fool himself into thinking he was going to get a scholarship. I wanted to play football at Alabama but Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant didn’t need a slow, white cornerback.
This story got me to thinking about heaven. I wonder how many people will fool themselves into thinking they will make it to heaven by their works. According to the Bible there are going to some frauds trying to enter heaven. The only way to go to heaven is to do His will.
Matthew 7: 21-23
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
What do you think?

It had me thinking about how he was fooling himself, yet he had to know a day of reckoning would come. What was he telling himself to do once exposed? Very sad that someone would believe their 15 minutes in the sun is worth it, when the fallout is so devastating.
I would hope that anyone who wanted to be recruited by the University of Alabama would have “made it up.”
LOL
Kevin,
I have vocalized my intolerance of “pozers.” People who say they are something they are not. My pastor and I both get so disgusted with individuals who wear the name of Christ but do not even make an attempt to live it daily.
Yet at the exact same time…
Here is a prayer I posted on my blog on myspace yesterday…

A Prayer for Hospitality
Current mood: ashamed
Category: Religion and Philosophy
Father,
How do we fool ourselves to thinking that people were any different 2,000 years ago? You tell us to be hospitable to strangers, to share the word. And we make excuses. Forgive us. Forgive me.
God, the man who was kicked out of the Harbor House (a drug rehab facility on my street) was nice enough. He admitted he had a problem and he was open and receptive to hearing Your gospel and discussing spiritual things. I was happy to talk to him and to invite him to church in my front yard this morning. But when he asked to come in to use my phone to call his “Sponsor” I lied and told him I didn’t have a phone. I was thinking trying to justify my actions Afterall he is a druggie, and they kicked him out of a rehab program. I don’t want that kind in my home.
That behavior is not what You would have.
Lord I am ashamed, and I ask for forgiveness. May Your grace overcome my sin and let James come to Ash Wednesday services tonight in spite of my sin. Help me be hospitable to the people You love.
In Jesus Name
A-men

Sobering Kevin…
Thank you for posting it…
We all need a reflection…
Good points. This guy is a sad case, of course, but at least it was just about football.
Sadly, many people have bought the lie that God will become whatever they want him to be. What transparent foolishness! As if the creator of the universe morphs into our personal desires for him and becomes a designee God.
