Self-disclosure tag
I was tagged by Gary Snowden to participate in the following exercise in self-disclosure.
1. Link to the person that tagged you, and post the rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself.
3. Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
Seven Facts About Me
1. I was almost born in Chicago where my parents were students at Moody Bible Institute. My mom had to hide the fact she was pregnant with a raincoat even though they had been married for 2 years.
2. I was born in Kansas City, Missouri where my father was on staff with Youth For Christ.
3. I attended church with Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant in Tuscaloosa, AL–where I consider home.
4. I met my wife from two of my best friends, Ramsay who is a dentist in Huntsville, AL and Rob Jackson who is the pastor of Central Baptist in Decatur, AL. Rob’s wife Tonya and my wife were best friends from Scottsboro, AL. ![]()
5. I have a son, Jacob (Seminary baby while Dr. Dilday was President) who is 13+ and a daughter Hope who is 9.
6. I play a ripping lead guitar and a little keyboard
7. I was 11-3 as a freshman head high school football coach and the other coaches gave me the nickname “CUB” because “Bear” was already taken.
I’m not sure how many of these I will tag are currently reading my blog, but I’ll tag 7 individuals to abide by the rules

1) I play ripping guitar, a little keyboard… and jazz trumpet — HA! (just kidding… not about the instruments though!) I currently play in a jazz band.
2) I built an intercom when I was 12 that spanned 3 neighborhood blocks by burying wire around the neighborhood – I crossed streets by burying the wire in the tar between the street cracks – 5 kids were on the intercom.
3) I fly-fish and tie my own flies. Sometimes I catch trees.
4) I grill “Oh my God!” fish… named after my mother-in-law who upon tasting it exclaimed “Oh my God!”
5) I went Christmas caroling at a hospital with a group of friends – after becoming an atheist
6) When I was a kid, I scavenged seized-up lawnmower engines, rebuilt them, and either sold them or gave them away to friends to use in their mini-bikes (anyone remember those?)
7) I used to make beer from scratch but haven’t made any in several years.

1) I am a veteran. I served in the United States Air Force for ten years, before coming back to civilian life and going to seminary in Cleveland TN.
2) I graduated from Madison County High School in Gurley–a place that I’m sure Kevin is familiar with.
3) I became a Christ-follower when I was 6 years old (that will be 40 years ago this coming June).
4) I play piano, organ, and am a pretty good singer.
5) My passions are: people and cooking.
6) I love Southern Gospel music–if it’s done well.
7) I’ve been in 34 countries on 4 continents (not bad for a youngster from the “sticks” of north Alabama, huh?)
I’m still trying to figure out who to tag next but here’s my list:
1. My family moved me from Texas to the same city in California, Twice! Once for 4 years, once for 2. Nostalgia reigned in Fountain Valley!
2. I met my wife, Vicky, at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX—we decided to get married 3 weeks after that meeting—and were married only 4 months after meeting—that was over 11 years ago. If you would have asked me before we met if I would get engaged that fast, I’d have said you were crazy.
3. The night we met, I made her laugh, especially while watching “Last of the Mohicans” with friends. I’d bet you didn’t know that was a comedy!
4. I was a short kid until I had major surgery to repair my sternum which was causing a 30% impairment of my lungs and heart. Now I’m 6’4” and should be taller based on my size 15 shoes.
5. I have 2 children—my son, Gabriel, is 7 and my daughter, Moriah, is 3—they are both great joys to my life.
6. I tried to avoid being a pastor for 4+ years—now I can’t imagine doing anything else.
7. I was an extra in the movie, “Courage Under Fire” with Meg Ryan, Denzel Washington & Lou Diamond Philips—as a member of the military graduation band—the scene was cut (I could tell it would be)—*sigh*–my one shot at true stardom…
