Worst Person in the World?

Posted at 5:00 am under Hypocrisy, abstinence, free speech, media, name calling

[Christian Post]

It’s not Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. It’s not even Joseph Stalin, Pol Pot or Adolph Hitler. No, according to Keith Olbermann — that blinkered liberal extremist who plays a newsman on TV — Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America (CWA), is “the worst person in the world.”

While discussing abstinence education during a recent interview on the Fox News Channel’s Special Report, Wright accurately pointed out that the most strident devotees of that abysmal failure tagged “comprehensive sex education” are most likely to benefit financially when children and teens become pregnant or contract sexually transmitted diseases.

During the interview, Wright hit the nail squarely on the head, saying, “In fact, they want to encourage [kids to have sex] because they benefit when kids end up having sexually transmitted diseases, unintended pregnancies and then they lead them into having abortions. So, you have to look at the financial motives behind those who are promoting comprehensive sex ed.”

And the financial motives are staggering. According to its own annual report, Planned Parenthood — which receives its lion’s share of profit from abortion — performed 264,943 abortions in the 2006 fiscal year, raking in an astronomical $55.8 million in profit … free and clear.

It doesn’t take a Phi Beta Kappa to figure out that Planned Parenthood — one of the foremost cheerleaders of “comprehensive sex ed” — has a vested interest in seeing that young girls become pregnant and have abortions. It’s a classic case of “the fox watching the hen house.” “Comprehensive sex ed” spells money in the bank because it actually encourages kids to have sex. It doesn’t work, and they know it.

Well, Wright’s comments didn’t sit well with the left. Liberal bloggers went nuts, and in a recent episode of MSNBC’s poorly rated “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” the painfully “progressive” talking-head took issue with Wendy for pointing out this clear conflict of interest, crowning her “the worst person in the world.”

Read about it here.

I guess if you can’t win an argument with the facts — resort to name calling!

I think you are absolutely right, Kevin. It is not about women’s health, or their right to choose. It is about money. Abortion is a procedure that brings in billions of dollars a year for the doctors and clinics that will perform them. Money is a terrible motive for killing a child.

As for Keith Olbermann, he has become a bitter, angry man. How sad. At one time he was the host of the most popular sports show on television. He and Dan Patrick made such a great pair that I never missed them. He leaves the top rated show because he can’t get along well with others (big surprise), and has a string of failed attempts at a television show. He would have been canned a long time ago from MSNBC for low ratings, but that network is so low in the ratings that even a guy like KO seems good.
No, Keith is not entertaining or informative anymore. He is angry. And bitter that his arch-nemesis, Bill O’Reilly, is number one in the ratings. Bitterness and anger is no fun to watch on television news.

From a post I did on abstinence:

“Overall failure rates for contraceptives (mainly the pill and condoms) are “only” 1 in 8, but things get ugly when you look at sub-groups:

A poor cohabiting teenager using the Pill has a failure rate of 48.4%. You read that correctly: nearly half of poor cohabiting teenagers get pregnant during their first year using the Pill.

Over 70% of poor, cohabiting teenagers using condoms, will be pregnant within a year. By contrast, the middle-aged, middle-class married woman has a 6% chance of pregnancy after a year of condom use.

Planned Parenthood and its allies in the sex education business have had conniptions over federal funding for abstinence education. But at least abstinence actually works. If you don’t have sex, you won’t get pregnant. It works every time.”

Those are PP’s stats, by the way! They know how ineffective birth control is for those groups and push it anyway.

I agree 100% - you are so right about The Christian Post article you site - it is blatantly guilty of name-calling in the 1st degree when it calls Olbermann a “Poindexter” and an “apoplectic.”

The idea that sex education is a significant factor in encouraging teen sex is ridiculous to me. I think the goal should be to reduce abortions and unwanted pregnancy, period. It seems to me that anyone taking a realistic view of the situation with that common goal (rather some some divisive ideological battle) in mind would not limit the strategy to abstinence-only.

Olbermann like Rush and O’Reilly are media personalities whose job it is to be sensational. Wright, on the other hand, is presumably a serious policy advocate. The concerns she raises about the economics of reproductive health are worth paying attention to, but to advocate that as the primary driver here is ridiculous.

Hormones and sex-obsessed culture and irresponsibility/ignorance are the among the most important factors driving rates of unwanted pregnancy and abortion, not sex education and profit motives.

Um, Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit. They’re not “making” any money. Excess revenue should go back into the budget for the next fiscal year. To imply that anyone is in it to make a profit is very deceptive.

Okay, on to the point. I have no patience for people who replace news with sensationalism and screaming, no matter which side of the political spectrum they’re on. Wright’s organization is just as guilty as spreading misinformation as are many liberal groups.

Neil is correct that abstinence works, but the evidence is mounting that abstinence-only/focused sex education doesn’t. Here in Texas, we’ve tried that out. We have one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the country, and the highest second-pregnancy rate for teenagers who’ve already had a baby of any state. And that’s for those kids who don’t abort their babies. In the interest of avoiding those abortions, I think we can do better.

Jason is right about Olbermann. He was great when he was on ESPN and the “Big Show.”

But the problem is that education doesn’t work period. This is a heart issue. The way to keep people from sins is to have their hearts changed by God and to allow Christ to live thru them.

Do Christians sin? Or more to the point, are there any Christians who do not sin?

But the problem is that education doesn’t work period.

    Doesn’t seem like “heart-changing” works either… ;)

    A3,

You make a good point. But the key to the Christian life is allowint Jesus to live through a follower o Jesus. I don’t think many believers do that.

    Kevin,

I stopped paying attention to the CWA when Beverly LaHaye LIED about General Colin Powell in 1993.

They lost all credibility then. And Sandy Rios (one of the former presidents of the organization) is a personal friend of mine, and fellow worshipper at The Moody Church.

I love Keith Olbermann! Have you ever completely watched one of his shows? I beg to differ - I don’t think O’Reilly has the #1 slot. You need to listen to all news, not just what’s on Fox.

By that logic, the AMA has a vested interest in people smoking, drinking and overeating since doctors make money treating the consequences of these activities. Hospitals must have a vested interest in drunk driving because those accidents fill up their emergency rooms. Social workers have a vested interest in parents who abuse their children since it keeps them employed. Police officers have a vested interest in murders and firemen have a vested interest in arson.
