Book Review–The Organic God
I was asked to review The Organic God by Margaret Feinberg. Margaret is a professional writer and speaker who lives in Juneau, AK.
This book is about personal stories of Margaret and her relationship with God. She had an interesting childhood. Her parents sounded like 60’s flower children. They owned a surf-shop for a while then moved to Colorado near the ski slopes. They also sailed the Caribbean for a while. Margaret shared how it was difficult for her to make friends when they moved so much.
Her story was about how God spoke to her through various events. Sometimes she obey and other times she didn’t but God was always faithful. She wanted to go to Georgetown University but ended up at Wake Forest and that was God’s plan. She eventually ended up in Alaska determined to be a writer. That is where she met her husband who is Norwegian. Margaret is Jewish by birth but became a follower of Jesus earlier in her life.
In a nutshell the title explains the book. Margaret explains how to strip down God into an organic being that He is. He wants to have a relationship with us and speaks to His children. I’m glad I read this book because it gave me a woman’s perspective on faith. It would not have been a book I would have picked out myself. I think it is important for male ministers to try to understand what more than half of our members are thinking.
I give The Organic God 4.5 out of 5 hockey sticks.
