Pharisee Busters-my church
I want to brag about the people at my church Durham Memorial Baptist Church. Last Thursday I received a call from one of our children’s workers (Mark) telling me about a 9 year old girl who lives in our community who is struggling physically. She has cancer and her family has very little money. He was approached by a lady asking our church to give this girl a Birthday Party. Mark said he would check it out and take care of everything.
Last night our church held a party in honor of this young lady who is a different than most of our members. The fellowship hall was decked out. All of the tables were decorated in girlie colors. Those who organized it put up a Princess throne on the stage with lights and balloons. She must have had over 30 presents from our members who have never met her. She got a new bike and other great presents.
Outside on of our members brought two horses for pony rides! All of this was organized since last Thursday! I’m speaking from Matthew 25:31-ff this week and it is amazing how God orchestrates events.
I’m so proud of our church for truly “Investing and Inviting” and becoming the “hands and feet” of Jesus.

Kevin, we hear so much about what’s going wrong.
What a welcome relief to hear that God is at work through His people.
It’s wonderful to see real Agape permeating throughout the body and extending out to the world.
Thanks for sharing that.
That is the church BEING the church - not just doing church! Incredible!!! It starts with good leadership - Kevin you are doing an incredible job.
AWESOME!!! That’s the way it ought to be.
Very, very cool.
I have a birthday in a few months…
Amazing testimony…the church being instead of doing..what a concept! I know that little girl’s heart was blessed.
Nice story. My sister has a neighbour whose little girl had cancer (she was 7 years old.) Their church dug in and collected enough money to send the family to Disney World. I am told that it brought great happiness to the girl (and to the family members to see her enjoying herself), with one of her greatest thrills being hugged by Micky Mouse — something that might be fun for a lot of kids, but this had particular meaning for the girl. It’s wonderful when people can do things that have meaning for those who are coping with such difficult circumstances.
Now I’m crying.
God bless that congregation…! And God bless you,, their shepherd.
