Posted at 12:07 am under donuts, fun

It’s North versus South — in the doughnut wars.Dunkin’ Donuts is a tradition in the Northeast, but the South is Krispy Kreme territory. Now Dunkin’ Donuts is testing the waters in the Nashville area with a dozen stores.  Read about it here.

Which is your favorite?

The hot sign flashing is an easy call, get a dozen for the family and a quick six for the ride home……melt in the mouth. No way to compete with Krispy Kreme. Just attach them to your waist for the omosis effect.

I don’t eat a lot of doughnuts, but when I do I really like Krispy Kreme’s glazed doughnuts. Everyone else’s seem to be real sticky and a bit chewy, but I like the way the glaze hardens on Krispy Kremes, and I like their lighter texture.

I doubt that Dunkin’ Donuts will ever come close to matching Krispy Kreme in popularity in Nashville, but they will find a niche. I guess this is just another sign of cultural change. When I moved away from Nashville in the mid-90s there we no Jack-in-the-Box fast food places, and now they’re all over town. It seems like I remember there being a few Dunkin’ Donuts places when I lived there, but I could be wrong.

    Krispy Kreme hand down.

In Melbourne - land Down Under, we just recently had the first krispy Kreme opening. For weeks and weeks, the queue was endless - I am talking 3 - 4 hour waiting time. I patiently waited for the queues to lessen as there is NO way I am standing in line that long for a donut, no matter how good. Move forward to 8 weeks later and I finally get to try my first krispy Kreme donut. Sure it was nice, but at the end of the day, still just a donut.

If we ever have a dunkin Donuts open here, I shall be able to compare!.

Well………… I was raised in Indianapolis, so it’s DD all the way!! They have great cake donuts and other stuff too.

In the end, thought, it’s like asking which wing on the airplane you’re flying in, you like best. You gotta love’em both!

Sigh.. my Priest reminds me that that Gluttony has not been removed from the Seven Mortal sins.. but Lord have Mercy.. warm Krispy Kremes! Surely no man can resist them!

when it comes to the coffee: dunkin’ donuts.
when it comes to the donut: krispy kreme.

    dang. i guess it’s a tie!

I’ve had both, and can say that I would pass both Dunkin and Krispy to get to a Daylight Donuts.

I live in philly. They are adding another 250 stores out here, already there is a DD on every corner. NO KK! KK is obviously the superior donut and I am praying that they can crack the DD stronghold.

We had a Dunkin’ Donuts in Hattiesburg I think when I was a kid. Loved it. When I took my trip up the East Coast, I stopped at one in Easton, Maryland and got a giant sausage biscuit that was as big as a freakin’ Big Mac. It was GREAT. So… Dunkin’ Donuts all the way.

Actually, here in Houston, Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme take a back seat to a local chain called Shipley’s. Krispy Kreme tried to enter the Houston market about five years ago, and just didn’t make it. Shipley’s is just, well, in a class all by itself.

    Krispy Kreme, without a doubt.

One of precious Catholic brothers (from England, go figure) had never had a KK before you came to visit me in Chicago three years ago.

We went to the local “Kreme hole” and gorged ourselves.

We now have a new SHRINE in Chicago:

The Basilica of the Most Blessed Saint Krispy Kreme…

Wait till the Vatican hears about this one!

Dunkin Donuts - but they were better when I was a kid. I like the powdered sugar ones with the chocolate icing filling. Pure evil or pure heaven. Who knows?

However, doughnuts are now on the “no-no” list … so shame on you for making me think of them. :)

grew up with DD, but never went back since tasting a hot KK. Now, if I can’t get KK, I will only go to a local mom and pop doughnut store for their apple fritters! :-)

Krispy is King on the west coast!

Since I live in the town which is home to Krispy Kreme headquarters, I’ll go with KK.

Well, having grown up with Dunkin Donuts, but living in the south later and learning to appreciate Krispy Kreme I can say, without bias at all, that Krispy Kreme hot glazed donuts are one of the greatest gifts ever given from God to us.

Krispy Kreme! I was just in the Northeast and was very disappointed in the Dunkin Donuts. I thought I liked those munchkins as a kid. Here in Houston some stupid legal battle went on and Krispy Kreme wasn’t able to stay in business. It was sad for they also left the grocery stores. We have a few Dunkin Donuts but I wouldn’t ever drive to one. People claim to love Shipley’s here. I only like Shipley’s for the donut holes. Gotta get Kolache’s from the hole in the wall shops.

Neither. 1 1/2 hours per day in the gym is enough as it is, without having to increase the cardio! Those little treats are very tempting, and the easiest way to wreck a trimmed waistline.

  21. Francoiseon 25 Oct 2006 at 6:07 pm 21

Krispy Kreme has just come into Australia, and already the nutrionists are publishing the horrid facts- these things are LETHAL.

  22. Wes Kenneyon 25 Oct 2006 at 6:28 pm 22

I wouldn’t walk across the street for a Dunkin’ Donuts, but I’ve spent three hours in line for a hot Krispy Kreme.

And yes, Francoise, they are lethal. And the employees are like crack dealers, offering a free sample when they’re hot as soon as you walk in the door.

“Hey, kid, come here. Try one of these…that’s right, just eat it…good, now you’re MINE!!!!!!!!!

  23. Francoiseon 26 Oct 2006 at 5:35 pm 23

Wes Kenny- too funny! You should have written the script for “The Exorcist”- your last line was far more demonic than anything which that silly film had to offer.

You waited THREE hours for one donut?????????????????? What’s in them- industrial -strength cannabis ?

  24. Melon 08 Oct 2007 at 9:57 pm 24

    Dunkin Doughnuts are the best!!
I love the DD dougnuts and the DD coffee vs. KK.

  25. Phil Hoover-Chicagoon 09 Oct 2007 at 9:37 am 25

    KRISPY KREMES, baby…
